Billy Currington
Reputed American musician Billy Currington was born and raised in Rincon, Ga. a half an hour drive from Savannah. Billy was 3 and half yrs old when his step father Larry Currington became a part of his life. In the years that came Billy faced the misery of having a town drunk as a father. Currington states that he would get out of control and linger through the whole house intoxicated. His father eventually died of cancer.
His first audition at the Opryland USA theme park in his freshman year was not passed. But, to pursue his dream of becoming a musician he moved to Nashville, Ten. His first gig got him enough cash as to pay his bar bill. In Nashville, he took up two jobs; full time in a concrete company and part time as a personal trainer. Currington was led to demo work and then composing songs by one of his clients. He signed up with Mercury records right after his publisher failed to replenish his contract.
The chorus of his single first appearance, “Walk a Little Straighter,” was written when bill was only 12. This song illustrates a child watching his drunken father puking and lingering in the doorways of the whole house. 2003 marked the release of his self titled album.
The year 2004 swung from the fan in the music video as he teamed with Shania Twain and released the chart hitting song “Party for Two.” He put in all his exposure and experience in an effort to produce his second album, “Doin’ Somethin’ Right”, in 2005. The first song of the album “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right,” had topped the country radio lists by the end of 2005.
