Codeine Syrup

The former NFL player, JaMarcus Russell known for his quarterbacks was detained by the police on the afternoon of sixth day of July ’10. The reason behind the arrest was that the police found bottles of codeine syrup in his house which is situated in the state of Alabama. In addition to keeping codeine syrup, Russell also had cans of pro methazine, Dr.Pepper and purple candy by Jolly Ranchers. The ingredients other than codeine syrup show that Russell had been drinking Purple Drank.

Purple Drank is an addictive drug which gives pleasure and figments of the imagination in an intensity which is double than that of alcohol. Codeine syrup is the anti histamine agent, which is recommended for asthma patients. The drug contains sedatives and is usually taken in small quantities to cure the cough. Usually, it happens that people of southern parts of US mix the cough syrup with soda and another sedative called pro methazine and shake it well. Then add very strong flavored purple colored candy to it so as to give the drink a unique purple color.

Russell told the police after investigation that he had been surviving on Purple Drank since a couple of months and because of the side effects, his weight has been cut down by 100 pounds and his health condition is deteriorating. Doctors said that there is possibility that he could die if taken the drug for another few months persistently. He was kept in jail for a day and was released after he paid 2500 US dollars as penalty.
