Donna Yaklich 50, a Pueblo woman, has been ordered to be released from “Colorado Women’s Correctional Facility” in the Canon City within the next ten days and she will be moving in the Arapahoe County to a ‘halfway house’. This decision was made on the afternoon of Thursday by Arapahoe County Community Corrections Board. Donna did not attend the hearing and came to know of the decision through telephone.

Donna Yaklich was convicted to hire 2 teens, Charles and Edward, to kill her husband, a police detective. Donna was arrested after Dennis Yaklich’s murdered in December 1985 in the drive way of his home at Avondale by the two brothers Charles, 16 at that time and Edward, 25 at that time. The brothers testified that Donna Yaklich had hired them for a preplanned killing of Dennis Yaklich, her police detective husband in an exchange of insurance money for USD: 45,000.

There was always a little doubt of hiring the two brothers by Donna Yaklich to kill Dennis Yaklich, her husband. However in court, Donna Yaklich said that he had done this act because of the violent behavior of her husband. She maintained that her husband was weightlift

er and he regularly took steroids and he often abused her. Donna stated that she was very much afraid that her husband would definitely kill her. She also stated that because her husband was a police officer, there was no chance that she will get help so she hired the brothers to kill her husband.

Donna’s story was also featured in a made for Television movie in 1994 starred by Jaclyn Smith.

Initially she was sentenced to a 40 years imprisonment which was later on reduced after various appeals and investigations.
