Doug Hoffman Election Results
Democrat Bill Owens won the elections here in Albany, New York against sturdy Republican Doug Hoffman. The closely watched congressional elections were held on Tuesday in the northern area of New York. The elections showed the race between moderates and conservatives for taking hold of the GOP.
With 92 percent of the city voting on Wednesday morning, attorney and Air Force retired Captain Bill Owens overcame the Conservative Parties candidate Doug Hoffman. With an average 49 percent to 45 percent, after the campaign got an advance with the help of united labor efforts in the concluding days of the campaign.
While speaking to the media Owens said that it had been a great and difficult campaign, he also thanked his family, President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for the support. He said that bringing people together to achieve something had been his goal from a long time and that’s what he was going to do as soon as he took office.
Owens also thanked Dierdre Scozzafava, a one time opponent and moderate Republican who left the election race under pressure from the party’s right wing. Due to her supporting of miscarriage rights and matching sex marriage. 6 percent of the votes were taken by Scozzafava, an assembly woman in the state legislature.
The race had become a point of focus for the whole nation. Some critics stated the elections as a referendum by President Obama, while others were of the view that it was an advantage for Republicans as they could attract more nations to their side.
This was an area where Republicans had claimed victory for over a century. Hoffman had assembled a sudden altitude of support in the end days of the election campaign, which pushed Scozzafava to make her decision about quitting the election race.
