Ernie Accorsi

Well here comes another feather for Ernie Accorsi to decorate his hat with. The versatile Ernie Accorsi is back on the “Brown” stage! The Cleveland Browns, after the dismissal of George Kokinis, are looking to have Ernie Accorsi fill in the spot as the team’s General Manager. According to varied sources, the arrangement has actually been put into place to have Bernie Kosar – the Brown’s ex Quarterback – get groomed under the wings and supervision of the great Accorsi. Ernie Accorsi has in a way played “godfather” for Kosar ever since the QB was drafted by Accorsi in ’85.

Ernie Accorsi himself is no stranger to serving the role. He not only served as the General Manager for the Browns from the mid 80′s till the early 90′s over a 7 year stretch (from 1985 – 1992) but has also performed the same function for two other National Football League (NFL) teams; the Baltimore Colts (from 1982 – 83) and the New York Giants (from 1998 – 07). Additionally, he was also the Asst. Sports Publicity Director for Penn State University during the latter 60′s.

Ironically, Ernie Accorsi was the man consulted by Randy Lerner – the Brown’s owner – before George Kokinis was recruited. Kokinis served the Browns in the capacity of General Manager for five years (from ’91 – ’96). The word floating around is that Lerner has dismissed Kokinis after the Brown’s pathetic 30 – 6 performance. So far Lerner has been quite, and has neither officially confirmed the reasons for Kokinis’s departure nor the arrival of Ernie Accorsi into the Brown’s senior staff.
