Facet Biotech

It has been said by the Abbott Laboratories (a well-known company of the medical and drug products) on Tuesday that Facet Biotech Corp. will be bought by them and the deal has been finalized for USD $450 million. This amount will be paid in cash by the Abbott Laboratories. This deal is an effort towards the expansion of the access of the company to the biotechnology drugs in which multiple sclerosis’s potential treatment is also included.

It has been planned by the Facet Biotech Corp. and Biogen Idec (its partner) that Daclizumab (drug of potential multiple sclerosis) will be entered into the development of late stage in the next quarter of the year. Treatments of potential cancer in different stages of the development process are with Facet Biotech and some other partners are also involved with them in these development.

It has also been decided in the deal that USD $27 dollar will by paid by the Abbott Laboratories per share which will mark the closing price USD $16.21 of the Facet Biotech share to the premium of 67 percent. The deal has already been approved by the board of directors of both of the companies which is about to mature in the next quarter of the year.

Abbott Laboratories, a well-known medical and drug products company which is North Chicago based, has accumulated the deal at around USD $722 million and by subtracting the marketable securities and projected cash of the Facet Biotech Corp., the net less amount reached to around USD $272 million. Therefore the net amount USD $450 million will be paid by the Abbott Laboratories to the Facet Biotech as a result.
