Grand Canyon Skywalk

On the edge of the Grand Canyon, AZ lies the Grand Canyon Skywalk; a tourism promoting site, discovered by the Hualapai tribe of India in collaboration with David Jin, the American-Chinese entrepreneur.

The walkway which is in the shape of a horse’s shoe situates 3,600 ft above the Grand Canyon’s base. It is considered as the tallest skyscraper of the entire world. The skywalk reaches out over the side of the GC, finding way to view the main side. The topographic maps of USGS show the various altitudes of the skywalk.

The funding of the whole project was done by the Indian tribe. It was brought to the attention of the people on 20th March, 2007 and opened for visitors on 28th March, 2007.

The site can also be accessed from Nevada, Las Vegas, and south Arizona via road from Highway 93. Since 17th of November both road junctions of Diamond bar road have been undergoing changes. 10 miles of dirt

road and gravel have been added. The skywalk is shut down for visitors by the management when storms are nearby, but that happens very rarely. For rain carpeting has been inducted so that viewers may limit the visible ground underneath.

To safeguard the glass work the management has carried out a rule regarding the bringing of personal items like phones and cameras on the area of the skywalk. Lockers are available free of charge. The 46 layered glass frames is worth up to $250,000 and can become disfigured if any metal object falls on it. Installed cameras on the bridge are available for photography whereas the snapshots can be collected from the gift shop.
