Hot Rod Hundley

It must feel both great and nostalgic for Hot Rod Hundley and his fans to listen to his voice on the Lakers’ team of broadcasting professionals. The former NBA great is filling in for a fellow broadcaster Stu Lantz who is caught up with family engagements as he chooses to be at his wife’s side who is still feeling the after math of a surgery. The seventy five year old, who is also associated with the Hall of Fame, will be covering for his colleague for less than a week.

Though he appeared calm and composed on the outside, Hundley did confess that he was a bit jittery on the inside coming back to the place he has so memories associated with. His first assignment will be to cover the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Utah Jazz in the latter team’s hometown. Utah also happens to be one of the cities Hundley loved playing in.

The broad smiled Hundley was a part of the Lakers teams even before their relocation to Los Angeles. Prior to the move, the Lakers belonged to Minneapolis. Following his retirement as an active player, he started learning the art of entertaining broadcasting under the guidance and supervision of the legendary Chick Hearn.

Hundley molded his talent into Chick’s style. Till 2005 he had the Utah Jazz’s TV and radio broadcasts operating under him.

The night also witnessed Luke Walton of the Lakers filling in for Mychal Thompson who will be missing 2 games due to family commitments.
