Jack Lengyel

Jack Lengyel was born in 1935. He is a former sports official and software executive. The most popular part of his life is being a head coach of the Thundering Herd football team of the Marshall University from 1971 to 1974. Jack Lengyel became the head coach of the team after the Flight 932 of Southern Airways plane was crashed in which almost the entire team was killed in 1970.

Jack Lengyel completed his graduation from the University of Akron where he was also serving there in 1959 as an assistant coach of their football team. Jack Lengyel was also a member of the Lone Star Fraternity. At Heidelberg College in 1961-62, he was working as the assistant coach before joining the College of Wooster as the head coach of their football and lacrosse in 1968.

Joe McMullen athletic director of the Marshall University hired Jack Lengyel as a head coach after the plane crash in which head coach Rick Tolley was killed along with most of the team members and other coaches of the Marshall University. Jack Lengyel was forced to recruit athletes from basketball and baseball as well, after joining the Marshall University as the head coach of their football team.

Although the football team of the Marshall University struggled a lot for the first season even after joining the Jack Lengyel as the head coach but still they managed to win victory over Xavier and the final score was 15-13. The overall record of Jack Lengyel being a head coach of the Marshal University was 9-33 till his resign.
