Jack Murtha

Republican John Murtha, the first combat veteran of the Vietnam War who served in Congress and an influential advocate for both the Pennsylvania’s interests and for the military, who is also well known as Jack Murtha, died on Monday. His age was 77 at the time of his death. The cause of his death has not been disclosed by his office yet.

Mr. Jack Murtha had recently gone through the surgery of gall bladder. “Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense” was chaired by Mr. Murtha and was known as a best friend of Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House). He was also behind the rise of Nancy Pelosi to the leadership of the party. A speech which was delivered by Mr. Jack Murtha in 2005 against the war of Iraq became a turning moment in the attitude of congress concerning efforts.

Ethical scrutiny was also faced by him. He was videotaped by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1980 while they were investigating the issue of Abscam which turned down into bribe but looked that door was left open for the payments in future. An ethical cloud came over Mr. Jack Murtha again in recent days when PMA Group was focused by the federal investigators but accuse of crime could not be proved on him.

Presumable successor of Mr. Jack Murtha being a chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense is Mr. Norm Dicks (Republican Congressman from the District Washington) who is well-known as Boeing Company’s big booster. Ms. Nancy Pelosi said that Mr. Murtha was no doubt a huge personality.
