Jerry Buss

A natural over achiever, Jerry Buss is no stranger to being in the spotlight. Born on the 27th day of January in 1934, the Salt Lake City (Utah) native was given the name Gerald Hatten Buss when he arrived in to the human world. In addition to various sports franchises in South California, he is also the current vendor of the talented NBA group the Los Angeles Lakers

After earning a B.S degree in a short period of only two and a half years from the University of Wyoming in the year 1953, Jerry relocated to Los Angeles where he graduated with a M.S degree from University of California. At the young age of twenty four, the versatile Jerry had already earned a doctorate from the same UC with a major in physical chemistry.

After a brief teaching and real estate career, Jerry Buss hit gold in 1979. In a purchase deal barely shy of 68 million dollars, he bought a huge ranch, the NHL Los Angeles Kings hockey team and Los Angeles Lakers NBA team from Jack Kent Cooke. At that point in time, the Cooke-Buss transaction was the largest business deal ever in the history of sports.

An avid poker fan, Jerry Buss has his children assisting him with his vast sports business empire. His sons Jimmy and Johnny Buss served as Assistant Lakers’ GM and president of the Sparks respectively. While daughters Jeannie and Janie Buss serve as Lakers’ Vice President of Business Operations and President of the Lakers Youth Foundation respectively.

Jerry Buss is also recognized for making frequent donations to various educational institutes.
