When the founder of Jimmy Johns, Jimmy John Litautaud graduated in the year 1982, he had two options, either to start a business or to join Army. He preferred starting a business as he was impressed by the Portillo’s a restaurant chain of Chicago. His father gave him $ 25,000 to establish his business of hot dogs. It was mutually agreed, if the business would be a success, Litautaud would own 52% of the business and the remaining 48% would go to his father. On the other hand, if the business flops, then he would have to join Army. Litautaud thought that the business of hot

dogs needed more investment and it was not possible to start the business of hot dogs with the amount he had borrowed from his father. So, instead of starting the business of hot dogs, he decided to make a set up of sandwich. He consulted one his friends, who told him that the secret in the success of sandwich business was in the quality of the bread. He got the point and started to bake the bread in the kitchen of his mother. He started buying the meat of high quality and prepared six sandwiches. He got votes for the best four sandwiches from the members of his family. In this way he started the shop in the name and style of Jimmy Johns.
