Katherine Reutter

Katherine Reutter is an up-and-coming Speed skater in the USA.

Katherine started practicing figure skating with help from her mother when she was just a four year old toddler. After a while she realized she wanted to break free of the jump and spin routine and go for something that involved speed and thrill. She was soon recruited by a talented Speed skating trainer, and has since then continued to outshine other competitors in various events.

At age 9 Katherine competed at the inline Speed skating level in her hometown at Champaign, Illinois. Unfortunately, the club where she practiced was shut down five years later and she went back to figure skating on ice. Here her dad helped her to learn the appropriate techniques for skating, mentoring her on the real spirit and sacrifices expected of a true athlete.

By age 15 Katherine was a regular skater – her parents drove her 3 hours to St Louis, Missouri, twice a week, just so that she could get to spend more time skating on ice. Arrangements were made at her school that granted her special permission to access the school’s ice rink during the lunch hour.

All these efforts were made to help Katherine qualify for the trainings at the US Olympic Education Center, located in Marquette, Michigan. She finally qualified for the training sessions in February 2005, and consequently, at age 16, moved away from her home town to practice for the Olympics.

Katherine was the youngest and least experienced skater at the Center, but she qualified for the Junior World Team during her first year there, enabling her to enter her first international competition. The following year she won the US Junior Championship, and qualified for her first World Cup performance.

In May 2007, Katherine Reutter moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to try out for the National Team. She currently practices rigorously every day to achieve her dream of becoming the best Speed skater in the world.
