La Vida Loca Documentary

Depictions of a disturbed and oppressed actuality are mirrored in the documentary “La Vida Loca” by film producer, photographer and journalist Christian Poveda. In the documentary members of the 18th street gang “la dieciocho” have been trailed. The gang belongs to an impoverished neighborhood from San Salvador, Central America.

However the tragic news came in Wednesday morning when the 51 yr. old French/Latina producer was shot to death. Poveda has received 4 bullet shots in the face and his body was found in an isolated parked car in the northern region of the capital. The documentary was filmed by Christian in 2008; it gave an account of the catastrophic and grim life led by the members of the Mara 18 gang. The documentary, hence has been named La VidaLoca documentary or the “The Crazy Life”.

President for the region Mauricio Funes stated that the departure of Poveda had left him in a state of distress. He has given orders for a fully loaded police interrogation case for the incident.

Poveda first visited El Salvador as a photographer to give descriptions of the 1980′s civil war, after that he ended up again in the Central American region to focus and throw light on the notorious local gangs and their pitiful lifestyle.

Spanish news agency “Efe” stated that during the time of his documentary making the journalist saw seven murders taking place in front of him, whereas three of the victims had been the subject matters of “La Vida Loca”.

Film festivals of El Salvador, Mexico, USA and Cuba viewed and reviewed the documentary several times. The branches of Mara 18 and counterpart Mara Salvatruchaare have gotten grip through Central America and now even in some northern America states as well.
