Mahmoud Vahidnia

Mahmoud Vahidnia is being discussed in the media because of his direct criticism with Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran during a meeting of students and academics with Ali Khamenei on October 28, 2009. Mahmoud Vahidnia, a young man and Iranian student, is studying at Mathematics Department, Sharif University of Technology. He is also the winner at International Mathematic Olympiad. He is the gold medalist for the national math Olympiad, Iran.

When the speeches of official speakers were completed and Khamenei was about to make the address, Mahmoud Vahidnia started to make his remarks. The young man continued his remarks for about twenty minutes while some spectator continued to protest. According to Mowjeh Sabzeh Azadi, the young man criticized the state’s television and radio networks, the strong security structure for the press, the invisible strong ban on criticism on the Iranian supreme leader and the country’s power structure through Guardian Council and Assembly of Experts. He criticized that the IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) is not showing an exact image of all the happenings in Iran after the election of June 12, 2009. He criticized that as the IRIB’s head is being selected by Ali Khamenei, so he is either not aware about the organization’s performance or he is directing the programs of the organization by himself. He also criticized the people around Ali Khamenei who are making him an idol.

The state run Iranian television was broadcasting the event. The program was stopped airing by the authorities after the incident.

Mahmoud Vahidnia has been said to kidnap after this event by revolutionary guard.
