Midnight Mass

Christmas is the day when millions of people around the world celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ into this world. Christmas eve is the night of 24th December, the night before Christmas. It is the time when millions of believes flood the churches to attend the midnight mass. Midnight mass is a ritual or a service that takes place in a church during or before midnight. Midnight mass is carried out in many different ways in different place but the church welcomes all the types of midnight mass.

In Spain, there are 2 most important customs that are followed when it comes to Christmas eve; one, is attending the midnight mass and the other is the meal that is shared with friends and family. This year in London, the midnight mass will be held earlier, so that families and children don’t have to go through travelling problems. It is said that the Liverpool church, Child Jesus church will hold midnight mass at pm. This is a very good idea for people who do not like going out and also it will keep people from staying out too late and avoid being tired on the actual Christmas day.

There are different ways people go about the midnight mass. Midnight mass takes place on the eve before Christmas, people go to the churches where they attend the service in a mass. Mostly it starts before midnight, the hymns which usually take place are replaced with Christmas carols. And the story of nativity is told. Many feel that midnight masses are a really extraordinary way of beginning Christmas. Some only light candles on the table and with the light coming from them the service is attended. Some churches start the midnight mass close to midnight so Christmas can be celebrated together after the ceremony.
