Hermaphrodite is the real word and Morphodite is the humorous articulation of the word. The noticeable use of the word “Morphodite” came in the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” in 1960 the writer of the book Harper Lee has used the word beautifully in the 8th and 14th Chapter of the book.

In the chapter 8 of the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” Scout and Jem choose to make a snowman in their backyard when it snows, and when they are done with it the snowman looks like Mr. Avery, I never came to any decision that rather it was intentional or not but in real the snowman looks like Stephanie Crawford, Atticus makes them to change the appearance of the snowman upon realizing that it actually does look like Mr. Avery, and he may be get angry about this, to change the appearance of the snowman Jem “make use of” Miss Maudie’s hat and clippers. Miss Maudie sees the snowman and start talking with Atticus during the conversation Miss. Maudie refers to snowman as “an absolute Morphodite”.

The real word hermaphrodite carries the meaning as a creature that contains the characteristics of both man and a woman. Miss Maudie used the term because the snowman looks hermaphrodite because after making the snowman look like a man Jem added the hat and the clippers of Miss Maudie due to the reason that the snowman looks like Mr. Avery.

Since Jem and Scout both are innocent and young to understand that what they have created and are unable to see anything odd about it. The word Morphodite was later used by the Scout as a name or a title for the “snowman” or whatever it was as he has no idea what it was and Miss. Maudie’s response was a laugh. The word later used in the 14th chapter of the book when Scout screams at her older brother Jem referring him as “You damn morphodite”.
