Nutty Putty Cave Utah

A search & rescue mission gone wrong, that is the simple summary of what happened to John Edward Jones in Utah’s Nutty Putty Cave. The twenty six year old relied on the rescuers in pursuit of freeing him and fought for survival for over 24 hours before succumbing to inability to breathe in the proper manner.

It all started out as a fun exploring escapade when John along with his brother Josh and 11 other individuals. John was cut off from his fellow adventurers when he chose to adopt a different route – an extremely taut channel called the “Birth Canal to Bob’s Push”. Caught up and twisted in the worst of positions, Josh and other members in the adventure group called for rescue within half an hour of realizing John was stuck.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, they analyzed the whole situation thoroughly and did not waste any time in getting down to the trapped Jones. A ray of hope shined on everyone when rescuers got within inches of

John, lifting him up a little distance with a pulley and providing him with ration through IV. At that point in time John was able to communicate with his spouse through the rescuer’s radio system.

But the momentary joy was blown to bits when the pulley snapped and John went down hard, back into the same crevice he was in previously. Only this time the impact forced his body in deeper and locked around the lower ribs. Thus John Jones breathed his last 700 feet below the cave.
