Office of Personnel Management

It is universally agreed fact that every organization, whether big or small, has its workforce. And if there is workforce, there must be a department dealing with the affairs of those who work for that establishment. In official term, this department is called as office of personnel management that manages the matters of personnel of an institution. The size and effectiveness of an office of personnel management may vary from organization to organization. No doubt, every institution has its own office of personnel management but the area of its extent of jurisdiction is always fixed in accordance with the size of an organization.

For any organization or country, office of personnel management is considered the most important department for its effective and efficient operations. The human resource always plays a very pivotal part in development and progress of an institution. It is the human resource that visualizes not only future prospects but also potentially rich areas to be exploited. In the modern day, automation has taken over official manual work. However, electronic machines cannot think like a

human being. Computers cannot operate without human hands. These machines cannot make policies, guidelines and regulations etc. for any office. Therefore, human resource is part and parcel of every organization. When there is human resource involved, it becomes imperative to create an office to solve their issues.

Office of personnel management is responsible for discipline, efficiency as well as for well being of the people working in an organization. This office carries out recruitment and selection of suitable workforce. It also works out compensation packages for the employees. Moreover, this office deals with retirement matters as well as medical and other monetary benefits. In order to create a competitive environment in the organization, training and other skill development programs are initiated by the office of personnel management.
