Owain Glyndwr

Owain Glyndwr was a Welsh (people of Wales) Ruler from 1400 c to 1416. Born in 1350 Owain Glyndwr belonged to a Welsh family. He got his earlier education in England and joined the England army and took part in the incursion of Scotland. Owain Glyndwr was indulged in starting a rebel against England in Wales. Many attacks and fights were took place by Owain Glyndwr supporters at the borders of towns of Wales. England were stimulated by this rebel and they took action which lead to a victorious campaign against the rebellion. However, Owain Glyndwr successfully escaped. Several measures were taken by the English to control the area, but they couldn’t fully stop the rebellion acts. It was in 1402, when Owain Glyndwr gathered his men and stand victorious again English army.

Owain Glyndwr started to lead a national rebellion and many forces of surrounding areas joined Glyndwr troops and started moving towards Worcester, conquering every castle that came in their way. But England started to regain control of the Wales and the rebellion support with Owain Glyndwr started to diminish. The rebellion was soon ended and Owain Glyndwr was offered to surrender in 1416, but it was thought he has been already dead by that time. Nothing has been known about Owain Glyndwr since then.

Owain Glyndwr is a popular figure in England and his character has been used by Shakespeare in his play Henry IV. His sculpture is standing in the City Hall, Cardiff and Owain is included in the 100 greatest Britons in 2002 by public voting.
