Putney Swope
Putney Swope is a film released in 1969. It was directed and written by Robert Downey Sr. and produced by Fred C. Caruso and Richard A. Roth. Arnold Johnson starred in the movie as Swope. The budget of the movie was $120,000 and it was released in 1969 with a running time of 84 minutes.
According to the plot of the movies, an advertising firm has Swope on its executive board as the only man who is black. After an unexpected and sudden death of company’s chairman there is controversy among the board members and every member of the executive board believes and expect that he should be elected himself to the board. However, according to the corporation’s bylaws, vote cannot be casted for oneself for the chairman, so the individuals votes in the secret ballot.
The business name has been changed to “Truth and Soul Inc.” and Swope also replaces all the white employees and he insists that the company will not accept any business from those companies producing war toys, alcohol and tobacco from now onwards.
Suddenly the business success draws the unwanted United States Government’s attention, where the Government considers that it is a threat to the ‘national security’.
The movie is black and white; however the commercials in the movie shown from ‘Truth and Soul’ are colored.
A soundtrack material to the Putney Swope was first released by the ‘Fortune Teller Press’ in 2006. Charley Cuva composed the music. The music for the Downey’s film Pound 1970 was also composed by Charley Cuve.
