Shiloh shepherd is one of the endangered species of dog family that are found very rare and many countries are working to save this endangered specie. This breed was first seen in 1970 and its resemblance was like German shepherd family. Shiloh shepherds are not well known in clubs and among peoples because they are rarely found and only Shiloh family lovers have such kind of dogs.
They are larger in appearance and size having straight back and cool personality characters. It is also known as intelligent dog due to its calm nature, obedience and alertness. Mostly such dogs are used for therapies, in many police departments or by the people holding livestock’s. One of the salient features of Shiloh’s is they do not suffer from dysplasia diseases usually found in shepherd family.
Shiloh in appearance has very prominent features like broad head but slightly suppressed from front side, with black or pink lips, triangular well cupped shaped ears showing alertness on every move and brownish shaded eyes. The back is straight and flexible; tail is long and slightly bend and having long hairs on back. Their heights lies up to 30 inches or more and weight fall in 54 to 65 kg in males. In contrary females may be smaller and having height of 28 inches or more and weight 45 to 55 kg.
There is a variety seen in the coats of Shiloh. One is called as smooth coat that lies close to the body and is medium in length. Dogs having such coats have long hairs around neck, fore back and hind legs. While second is called as plush coat, it is longer and divided into undercoat and mane. Such dogs have a body covered with long hairs and have hairs inside the ear. The coat colors may be seen in variety like black mix with tan, pure black or dark grey or black grey combinations etc.
They walk smoothly keeping their back straight and up, without any swing and have ideal walk like shepherds. They have loyal personality, love to work, play and guard animals, humans especially children. They are active, quick and intelligent animals, easily understand, adapt new environment and adjust in new situations. Their average life cycle lies between ten to twelve years and is less than German shepherd genera.
Certain diseases are also seen in this generation like intestinal bacteria over growth syndrome and abdominal problems blot in which stomach is stretched with extreme gas etc.
