Suzanne Jovin
Suzanne Nahuela Jovin was a popular name of senior students of Yale University; she was studying Political sciences and International Relations and was counted in number of brilliant students of her time. She was born at 26 January 1977 in Gottingen Germany. She was the third daughter of scientist Donna and Thomas Jovin. She held command on English, French, Spanish and German.
She was a kind hearted and loveable lady who always use to step ahead for social services. Also she worked for Haven local disables. Later she Joined New Haven Chapter of Best buddies and performed voluntarily her duties as a teacher in elementary schools programs via Yale Tutoring, as a singer in Freshman Chorus and the Bach Society Orchestra, she also co-founded the German Club and worked in the Davenport dining hall for three years.
It is the incident of 4 December 1998; she was working on her second last essay on Terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden. Approximately 4:15 pm she wound up all her work and went to organize a pizza party on behalf of Trinity Luthern Church. It is an organization that increases communication and pleasant environment between people and mentally disables. After completing her tasks there she went to work voluntarily in another home by 8.30 then she returned home at approx 9.00 pm. Her apartment was located at 258 Park Street upstairs to Yale police substation.
At 8:40 pm few friends of jovin met her and asked her to join them but she refused and showed her intentions to complete her remaining paper work. At 9:02 pm she sent an email to her friend for borrowing books and told her that she will place them in her lobby. After that she came out from her apartment and returned the keys of borrowed car and walked towards College Street away from the station.
Around 9:55 pm a passenger called police and informed them an injured lady was laying at the corner of EDGE Hill Road. When police arrived and investigated they found that she was 17 times deeply scratched with a pointing sharp instrument. Killer not only injured her badly but also fiercely cut her neck from both back and forth. She was fully dressed and was not subjected to any rape, harassment or theft case. Police found her dead and she was officially announced as dead at 10:26 pm at Yale New Haven Hospital.
After four days of her death police arrested James Van de Velde as suspect but he was released after 15 months. He was suspected for the reason of having an illegal affair with jovin as told by jovin’s friends but police did not found any proof against him.
Jovin’s family in 2000 pressurized the Yale Government to hire crime expertise from Newyork Police Department. The chief investigator Patrick Hmlet again analyzed the DNA of scraps she had in her fingers and finger prints founded on a bottle lied near to her dead body and they concluded that there is no match with Velde’s DNA and career of innocent man was ruined by local police.
September 2006, Jovin case was officially called as a cold case and her file was closed by investigators as they do not found any particular suspect and they never caught the killer of innocent lady.
For a long time her file was roaming in the hands of crime department, investigators and police but the case is still unsolved. However New Haven city and Yale University have offered a combined $150,000 reward for giving information or helping in arrest of her murderer.
