Tibetan Mastiff originally drifted from the Central Asian cultures, is a type and breed of very old local dog. The other popular name of this dog is “Do-Khyi” which means “home guard”. It clearly indicates that this type of ancient dog is being used as the home guard which is very much same as the ban-dog (English dog) which was tied in front of your house as a home guard in old days.
But Tibetan Mastiff (Do-khyi) is not used as a tied dog all the time as it can be released to wander around the house at night. “Bhote Kukur” is used for Tibetan Dog in Nepali language and in Chinese language “Zang’Ao” is used for the same breed which exactly means “Tibetan Mastiff”. It looks like wealthy people in China are going to be crazy about this type of ancient dog these days.
A lot of money is being dropped on Tibetan Mastiff during last some months by the status conscious Chinese and westerners having big monthly income. Near around USD $600,000 was spent by a woman in the month of September in Xi’an city. She spent this money to buy a Tibetan Mastiff which was an 18-month-old dog. The arrival of this dog was welcomed by a fleet of around thirty cars on the airport.
It has also been reported on the “U.S.A Today” that craze about the Tibetan Mastiff is rapidly increasing. They also reported about Zhao Yanjun who is a dog breeder and made more than USD $400,000 from his business so far this year. Well probably many of us will not agree to spend that much money on a dog but they will agree that this is really a cute breed.
