Tommy Mottala

Tommy Mottala is a music executive and the co owner of ‘Casablanca Records’ with Universal Music Group in a joint-venture. Tommy was married to singer ‘Mariah Carey’ formerly and currently he is the husband of Thalia, a Mexican singer. He was the former head of Sony Music Entertainment (parent of Columbia label) where he stayed for almost 15 years.

Tommy was born in Bronx (New York, USA) on July 14, 1949. He is a drop out from Hofstra University, Hempstead. Initially Tommy tried his luck in the music career with some CBS records, but it proved to be a short lived career for him.

Afterwards Mottola started his Champion Entertainment Organization Inc. managing the other artists and with a view to stay in touch with music industry. Tommy proved to be a successful mentor, when he was at Chappell music publishing company mentoring rock/soul performers John Oates and Daryl Hall.

Tommy’s career as the Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment proved successful. He led the company to be the most successful music company on the globe. During his tenor the company’s business expanded over 60 countries in addition to the development of a strong management team in the company. Tommy is well known for his role in the development and nourishment of the careers of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopes, Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Marc Anthony, Dixie Chicks, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand and Billy Joel.

After leaving Sony Music, Tommy has been trying to build a more strong entertainment company having a complete set of television production, recorded music, theater and fashion.
