Tsunami Hitting Hawaii

Tsunami hitting Hawaii was much smaller than predicted by the computer models or was calculated by the magnitude of the massive earthquake that hit Chile. The tsunami waves traveling at a speed of 800 km/hr reached Hawaii shores 12 hours after the earth quake. The length of the first waves was approximately 3 feet. The waves were striking after 20 minutes intervals. Hilo bay was the first destination the waves arrived at and the nearby coconut island got washed over by the playing waves.

Tsunami hitting Hawaii was subsided in three hours a shorter duration than the predicted duration of 5 hrs. Earlier the state civil defense had sounded sirens to alert the citizens in the evacuation zones to move away to safer places. The tourists were shifted to the higher floors of the hotels and the beaches were closed.
