Vauban Germany has everything being a beautiful city like perfect houses, tree lined streets but one urban fixture is still missing in this city for the last one hundred year or so: that is the car. But the residents of this historical city of Vauban do not mind one bit. Hartmut Wagner a resident of the Vauban city said that my wife had a car, I had a car and we lived with a car for around forty years but still I do not like a car and I do not miss it at all.
But cars are not ban entirely in Vauban but they are just trying to reduce the car usage by creating “car free” and “parking free” living within the city. Vauban, Germany located near the borders of Swiss and French and just outside of the city of Freiburg where private properties are not allowed to make parking spaces.
Public parking lots are allowed only for the car parking in Vauban, Germany and it helps the local residents to save the fee of car parking in the public parking lots if the living is car free throughout the city. Cars are also not allowed driving on some roads within the city and there is also a speed restriction which limits to own a car to the local residents of the Vauban Germany.
There are not more than twenty percent residents in the Vauban city who own cars. Bikes can be seen all over the city as the environment is car free there in this small town and kids also make a use of these bikes.
