What is Islam?

Millions of people around the world follow Islam, Islam has been something that comes up as a topic numerous times. But what is Islam? People know Islam as a religion but it is not merely a religion, Islam is a way of life. It teaches us how to live a proper and decent life, it teaches us what one should do and what one should not do. There is not a single aspect of life that is not covered by Islam, it teaches us the right way of doing everything, be it even the smallest things such as eating.

Some people may still ask what is Islam? People that follow Islam are known as Muslims. Muslims believe in one God; ALLAH. They also believe in his Messengers and the Holy Book, AL QURAN. According to Islam, the life we live on this earth is more like a test. Islam teaches us everything, we are supposed to pray and worship ALLAH, and we are supposed to do everything that ALLAH has made compulsory for the human being. In this life, the test is that how successful we are in obeying the orders given to us by ALLAH. And the actual life is the life hereafter, where the ones who have followed Islam perfectly in this life, will have no problems at all. And those who have failed to follow ALLAH’s orders will deserve hell fire. But we should keep in mind that ALLAH is most Merciful, if you repent on your sins and try not to commit sins, He will surely forgive you.

Islam consists of five pillars, they are; Shahadah- there is no God but ALLAH and Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of ALLAH. Salah- prayer, Zakat- giving charity, Sawm- fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan and Hajj- making pilgrimage to Makkah. The question, what is Islam? Cannot be answered in such little words, but to sum up Islam is a simple religion, if followed correctly, will put you on the right path that leads to success in this life and the life here after.
