Ziggy Marley

David Nesta (Ziggy) Marley is a singer, musician, songwriter and guitarist of Jamaican origin. He is well known for winning the Grammy award for four times. Marley is the leader of ‘Ziggy Marley & Melody Makers’ a band. He is the son of Bob Marley (roots reggae) and Rita.

Ziggy’s group played for some years occasionally. In 1981, the group played at the funeral of their father. The LP debut of the group was “Play the Game Right” a pop oriented album whereby Ziggy earned a scorn from the critics. The label of the band ‘EMI’ was interested to market him as ‘solo act’ thus moving the ‘Melody Makers’ to the ‘Virgin Records’ and recorded the ‘Conscious Party’ in 1988 which was produced by Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz. This album was popularly and critically successful like Jahmekya and One Bright Day. Amongst the popular singes were ‘People Get Ready’, ‘Drive’, True to Myself’ and ‘Tomorrow People’ which was UK top 20 and US top 40.

The sales of ‘Melody Makers’ started to decline from 1990s with band’s ‘Joy & Blues’ in 1993.

Currently Ziggy is working with ‘United Nations Organization’ enhancing his political activity, where he is creating ‘Ghetto Youths Crew’. In April 2003, his solo album, “Dragonfly” was released. His 2nd album as a solo album “Love is My Religion” was released in July 2006. He started touring with 311 in 2009.

Ziggy Marley is an active philanthropist and his charity is working to help the children.
