Cheerwine is a kind of soft drink which is produced by the Salisbury, South Carolina’s Carolina Beverage Corporation. The production of the Cheerwine had been started in 1917. When Maysville, Kentucky’s Maysville Syrup Company went under the L.D. Peeler and other investing businessmen they moved company to North Carolina.

After moving this company to North Carolina, the name was changed by them as Carolina Beverage Corporation and the same year a recipe for cherry flavored soda was purchased by the Peeler from a flavor salesman of Saint Louis and this recipe eventually became popular as “Cheerwine”. Although Cheerwine is in the market since 1917 but it was registered as a trademark in 1926.

Cheerwine has a prominent unusual rich burgundy color and cherry taste. It has been explained on the website of the company both for its taste and the color that it made sense to name a cherry concoction, burgundy-red, bubbly as “Cheerwine”. Cane sugar is being used for sweetening the Cheerwine instead of high fructose corn syrup and sold in glass bottles.

Cheerwine has sponsored the professional cycling team of elite women in 2007 which went to participate in the World Cup of UCI Women’s Road and Calendar events of USA Cycling National Racing. Number 21 Ford of Morgan Shepherd was also sponsored by the Cheerwine in the 1994 and 1995 in the NASCAR Busch Series. Cheerwine can be found in estern Ohio in the vending machines and in some San Francisco restaurants as well.
